We walked this pilgrimage in the winter of 2010 using the Italian edition of this book. AMAZING. The book and the website were extremely helpful. Compared to the Camino de Santiago (Santiago's Way), this is more intimate and spiritual, without the big crowds and busy hostels. For the most part your companions are birds and the sheep and cows of the farms you pass by. It is only when you are entering or leaving a town that you encounter modern life. Angela S. has managed to capture and transmit St. Francis' spirit along these trails, creating a web of hospitality along the way. We found people welcoming and helpful at every stop, whether at one of the inns she recommended or at the ones we found on our own. We found the same to be true at restaurants. Forget about other trails that invoke St. Francis, this is the real deal.
